Liz: Here is today's hypothetical scenario: Jon Stewart leaves The Daily Show, and Comedy Central decides they want to take the show in a more, um, fabulous direction. There is one slot open for a flamboyantly gay talk show host. Michael Buckley and Perez Hilton have 30 minutes to fight it out. Any weapon, verbal or physical, is in game. Who gets the gig?

Jill: My money's on Buck. I can see where some might think Perez has the advantage because of having no soul, but I say Buck has the sharper mind and the quicker wit.

Liz: See, there's where you're wrong. A soul is exactly what you don't want to have in the cutthroat world of professional pop culture commentary. Perez doesn't feel. Perez doesn't care. Perez will rip your face off and then draw a little cartoon squiggle of semen on it. And then he will post it on his web site.

Jill: Fair enough. But Buck is actually good on camera. He can think and talk at the same time.

Liz: Perez can rap.

Jill: 'Cause that's what it's going to take to win a gay host showdown: mad rap skillz.

Liz: I'm just saying, Buck looks like a crier to me. One mean rhyme and he'll be on the ground.

Jill: I saw footage of Perez on The View (in the course of this job, mind you), and it was pretty painful.

Liz: But that's a talk show appearance. It hardly seems fair to judge based on that.

Jill: It hardly seems fair to judge someone's ability to have a talk show based on their appearance on a talk show?

Liz: But you're judging Perez based on an unscripted appearance, versus Buck on a rehearsed, scripted series -- unless you have footage of Buck being interviewed?

Jill: Buck does do regular live chats, which is kind of talk show-ish, where he is on webcam whilst the fans are typing away. They ask him questions, he asks them questions ... it's all interactive and spastic and adorable.

Liz: Meanwhile, Perez has a comments section.

Jill: Well, WE have a comments section, for frak's sake.

Liz: Yes, but we don't use it to publicly disclose where we're blogging. (In Perez's case, a Coffee Bean in Hollywood.) That is balls, right there. Whether or not you think he's a good person, Perez's no-holds-barred approach keeps celebrities honest -- which is exactly what we need from a pop culture commentator of this sort.

Jill: Well, Buck's not exactly shy, either, but I will admit that one of the best things about Perez is that he's not afraid to reap what he sows. Though I will also say that I think Buck, while lacking Perez's bulk, looks like he could scratch and bite something fierce. He's scrappy.

Liz: Scrappy will only get you so far.

Jill: Yeah, well, you can't draw penises for half an hour, either. I mean, you can, but it won't win you anything.

Liz: I guess the question is, whose debate skills are up to the challenge? Because we're talking about internet commentators who don't have to engage with their audiences if they don't want to.

Jill: Well, then, you really have a matter of taste. Do you like your pop culture commentary hopped up and manicky, or do you like it full of gay outings?

Liz: That is Perez's primary weapon, the gay outing. Well, no, his secondary weapon. His primary weapon being crude Photoshop skills.

Jill: You know, this may be a debate first, but I think the ideal situation might just be to bring Perez and Buck together.

Liz: Yeah?

Jill: For a delightful celebrity-bashing flameathon. With musical numbers in which Buck sings badly and Perez raps badly.

Liz: Hah. Who would be first chair, though? Someone's name has to come first.

Jill: Well, now we're back where we started.

Liz: Maybe we should just give them knives and be done with it.

Jill: OH NOES! Don't cut my Buck!

Liz: Honestly, I think Buck should be happy to take second chair. He'd be the straight man. So to speak.

Jill: Perez has greater fame, it's true. Ooh, maybe Buck could START as second chair, have a surge in popularity, and push Perez out in a whole Star is Born type scenario. HOW AWESOMELY GAY IS THAT?

Liz: That is the uber-gayest. The only way it could be gayer ... wait. Actually, no. I can't think of how it could be gayer.

Jill: Perez makes a big comeback and takes the stage by storm a la Effie in Dreamgirls.

Liz: Okay, yeah. That.

The good news is, there seems to be a natural overlap between the Whedon-nerd and musical-theatre-nerd talent pools.  So much of the singing is pretty good.  (Keep an eye out for an all-too-short contribution from a certain monkey, who is my favorite cloth-based performer since Beaker tore up Ode to Joy.)  The better news is that the less musically inclined seem to know their limits; there's an awful lot of lip syncing going on, which probably makes up in ear-sparing what it lacks in excitement.

There's also adorableness to be found in the Music Videos section, where Billy and Penny's romance is heartbreakingly scored by Michael Buble, and Bad Horse's singing cowboys are reimagined as jaunty anime troubadors.

Sadly, what might be the most anticipated area is also the thinnest -- the In World section, where tributes, reimaginings and add-ons should be reigning supreme.  Of course, Wonderflonium is still in its early days; Dr. Horrible itself only went live a little over a week ago.  There is an adorable vid of Dr. Horrible as a child -- who knew Fisher Price made chainsaws? -- and a standout sidekick application from a "Dr. DreadFul."  And surely more great creative content will crop up as time goes on.    

Wonderflonium is a great idea.  Whedon-love has always been the sort of fanship that brings people together.  Is it fully delivering on its promise?  Maybe not yet.  But the great thing about this site is, if what's it's got to offer isn't satisfying you, you don't have to wait for something new and exciting ... you can make the magic happen yourself.  So have at it, people!

Desde hace casi cinco años un grupo de jóvenes interesados en darle un significado más profundo a los blogs creó Global Voices.

Nacida en la Universidad de Harvard, esta organización sin fines de lucro es un proyecto internacional que desea enlazar a las diferentes comunidades de la Red para vencer algunos obstáculos que todavía no dejan fluir una auténtica comunicación: la censura, el idioma y la brecha digital.

Global Voices cuenta ya con un nutrido grupo de traductores -y siguen sumándose más- que traducen a diferentes idiomas blogs de cada país creando una suerte de blog maestro.

El equipo ha creado un mapa en el que se pueden apreciar los lugares que están siendo víctimas de censura con la idea de denunciar la manera en que los gobiernos están entorpeciendo el flujo de información.

Cuentan, igualmente, con algunas guías importantes como la de los blogs de activismo (cómo hacerlos, qué incluir, qué requisitos cubrir, cómo mantenerlo, etc.) y los pasos para crear un blog anónimo, además de dar a conocer de qué manera ingresar a esas páginas que han sido vetadas en países como Brasil, Malasia y Turquía.

ASÍ FUNCIONA GLOBAL VOICES

En el creciente número de blogguers alrededor del mundo aparecen los 'blogguers puente': gente que habla de sus países o regiones para una audiencia global. Global Voices es tu guía hacia las más importantes conversaciones, información e ideas que se originan alrededor del mundo en varias formas de comunicación participativa tales como los blogs, podcasts, photosharing y videoblogs.

Nuestro equipo regional, conformado por bloggers-editores, se encuentra trabajando con la finalidad de encontrar, agregar y rastrear tales conversaciones. Todos los días ellos ponen online enlaces a aproximadamente de 5 a 10 entradas más importantes de los blogs en sus propias regiones.

Yograbo se vende como un lugar donde expresarte, mostrar tus habiliades, conocer gente o, íncluso, ligar, de hecho incluye la posibilidad de enviar vídeos a usuarios de forma conocida o anónima. Otro de los aspectos que destacan de Yograbo es su sencillez, de hecho es una de las cosas que más ha gustado a los de Loogic, gracias a los cuales sé de este sitio.

Creo que es una película que merece la pena ser vista por las personas con interés por el periodismo. Se demuestra la gran competencia entre la ética y el éxito que sufren los periodistas de alta gama. Sin embargo hoy en día algo así es impensable... ¿No?

El sensacionalismo ya no es solo trabajo profesional, ahora se le suman los blogs y sobre todo los videoblogs. Todo lo que vemos en todos sitios todos nosotros en todo momento es noticia. Basta con buscar "amazing" en YouTube para encontrarse con los vídeos de lo menos increíble. Ya no hay moscas informativas y los elefantes de las noticias prescindibles se apilan. El circo mediático está en cada esquina de la Web, o así lo desearían quienes cuelgan los videos espectaculares.
